Spun concrete from the “extra strong” category was used to support the planned 39-storey residential tower over the coming months on a total of 84 Rotop® supports! Or to put it another way: a total of 500 residential units will soon be supported by the Rotop® columns on the lower floors, where the shopping and gastronomy areas as well as a medical centre and a kindergarten are being built to complement the exclusive living pleasure. The whole thing under the marketing motto “A fulfilled life” …

Incredible 32,000 kN superimposed load per column

The Rotop® props used for this project are also “full to bursting”. It is well known that some of the five to six thousand Rotop® props that leave the MABA factory in Micheldorf every year are true performance monsters. But every now and then there are orders where the limits of what is feasible are once again pushed a little higher: The approx. 13-metre-long Rotop® props produced for the Marina Tower at Vienna’s Handelskai with a diameter of 70+80 cm are designed to lift the weight of 3,200 medium-sized cars. This means that only four such supports could easily carry the entire Eiffel Tower – visitors included!

Each of the 18-tonne columns contains a 6-tonne reinforcement construction, which our highly qualified and certified specialists welded together professionally and meticulously. The resulting 16% degree of reinforcement is also unique in the whole country and may only be implemented in Austria by MABA Fertigteilindustrie with its corresponding qualifications and specific quality assurance.

Unusual installation

The fact that the columns, delivered by special transports, are often installed in Vienna at night and in fog has not only to do with the weather, but above all with the traffic situation in the capital. Rather unusual, on the other hand, was the fact that the columns were threaded from high above through the recesses in the already constructed floor slab using an extra-high crane. This saved the erectors the considerable costs that would otherwise have been necessary for months of renting heavy-duty uprights. The installation was therefore an appropriately spectacular and elegant ballet in yellow and blue, for which the two leading special logistics companies and crane operators arrived with their heaviest equipment. However, the massive supports from Micheldorf played the leading role on this evening. Interested passers-by may want to take a closer look at the structure in the coming weeks and months before the pressure load monsters disappear behind the smart façade of Vienna’s lighthouse project.
