Kirchdorfer Concrete Solutions will present the newly developed “KUDIS” to a wider public for the first time at the Construction Congress in the Austria Center Vienna from 28-29 April 2022: With the “Cartographically Supported Documentation and Information System”, KCS is opening a new chapter in digitalisation: The precise digital GPS location of precast concrete elements at the site of their installation. With this, the innovative precast manufacturer is now practically closing the last digital gap from the recording of the raw materials to the documentation of the entire manufacturing process to the transport and installation of the components at their destination and ultimately even the corresponding disposal.
Networking of prefabricated parts in the “Internet of Things
In the “IoT” vision, in the future every device, every machine and subsequently, of course, virtually our entire “infrastructure” will know where all these things are and what they currently need. While it will probably still be a few years before the famous refrigerator independently reorders milk, the future scenario is already an immediate reality for many KCS precast concrete elements supplied: on a digital map, the precast manufacturer (and subsequently also his customers or buyers) can precisely read out the location and background information of installed precast concrete elements in real time.
This has enormous advantages for infrastructure operators of road, railway and sewage networks, for example: Because with the precise location and traceability of all associated data, maintenance work and repairs can also be handled efficiently, for example. Or operators of rental pools (such as the omnipresent temporary DELTABLOC® construction site protection elements) “know” exactly where which element is (and in which condition) at any time without further intervention. Road operators such as ASFINAG benefit even more, because all data is automatically made available by KCS via corresponding interfaces.
KUDIS is an in-house development of Kirchdorf Concrete Solutions and was implemented by R&D manager DI Alexander Barnaš together with external app developers. It therefore fits seamlessly into the existing digital KCS infrastructure and is also made available to selected customers via external interfaces. The system has been in practical use since 2021 and has already proven its worth. GPS data as well as photos and other additional information are recorded directly on site via a specially adapted handheld device connected to the internet. In principle, the solution is not only available to KCS assembly workers, but also to the precast manufacturer’s customers and partners, depending on their needs. The roll-out to the individual product areas of the 15 Austrian KCS production sites will take place step by step from now on, depending on the application scenarios. And these are almost unlimited…
