Replacement of old wooden noise barriers with compact multifunctional Kirchdorf LSW systems

On the Austrian motorway and motorway network there are numerous wooden noise barriers that have reached the end of their service life and are now being gradually replaced. Especially where noise barriers are combined with high-performance impact protection, the classic noise barrier (LSW) from Kirchdorfer Concrete Solutions is an optimal choice: integrated with DELTABLOC® restraint systems to save space, the LSW installed without foundations is available in system heights from 1.5 to 4.5 metres. On the A9 in the Rottenmann area, ASFINAG therefore also relied on the particularly compact LSW-R for the protection of the hard shoulder.

The 1.5 m high noise barrier, equipped with PHONOBLOC® wood concrete absorbers, is integrated with DB 80 concrete guide walls and thus has a total system width of only 85 cm. Despite the extremely space-saving design, a high retention level (H2) is achieved with a simultaneously low effective range (W5). The 1.3 km long noise barrier was designed by Fessler Architekten Innsbruck with elegant colour transitions and colour gradients. Compared to the previous wooden wall, the PHONOBLOC® wood concrete absorbers, which have been awarded the “natureplus” seal of quality, can also boast a longer service life.
