For more than a decade, the noise protection technology of the Kirchdorf Concrete Solutions noise protection wall (“LSW”) has been providing highly effective noise protection and quality of life for local residents. In summer 2021, the highest noise barrier in Austria was installed on the A2 Südautobahn in the Wiener Neudorf area – with a total height of 13 metres. The lower part of the noise barrier, which was implemented by the HABAU company on behalf of ASFINAG on a total of 1.2 km of driving distance, consists of prefabricated concrete elements with a wall cladding made of wood concrete. Additional Phonobloc® wood-concrete LSW elements, which have been awarded the natureplus® environmental quality seal, are mounted above this between uprights. The Austrian motorway operator thus relies on sustainable wood-concrete technology, which at the same time provides highly effective noise protection for the more than 5,000 direct residents.
In-situ measurements by ASFINAG showed that the particularly high requirements in terms of sound reflection and airborne sound insulation were met in full. The successful Kirchdorfer noise protection portfolio, which has evolved over the past years from a purely mineral variant made of lightweight concrete with a pile structure to an ecologically sustainable wood concrete standard in a wide variety of surface designs, has always been at the forefront of technological development. In 2017, for example, the Kirchdorfer Group was able to obtain the very first approval for use on high-speed railway lines in Austria as well as in Germany. With the space-saving integration of DELTABLOC® concrete crash barriers, the Kirchdorfer noise barrier is also the non-plus-ultra in terms of traffic safety.
By the way, this autumn the Kirchdorf LSW has another trend-setting trick up its sleeve. A prototype is already under construction … – the excitement is mounting!
