When there is an emergency situation in a tunnel, every minute counts. Therefore it may be imperative for emergency personnel to be able to access a particular tunnel through the opposite lane. That is exactly why Kirchdorfer Group developed the „DELTABLOC® SafeGate” system: A 6-metre long, special safety barrier element that can be moved out of the barrier chain through a hydraulic running gear, thus creating an opening only with the help of a tool kit stored inside the concrete element.
In preparation for the imminent deployment of 20 such elements on the A2 motorway between Packsattel and Klagenfurt (Carinthia Province), the regional emergency personnel was being given a live demonstration of the system on a closed off stretch of the highway . By lifting the heavy element with a hydraulic jack, the adjustable wheels allow for both lateral as well as lengthwise movement.
